This website covers the period in England from the early 1800's to the Victorian period, perhaps a little before, perhaps a little after.

I write in the Regency period, 1811-1820, the time when His Royal Highness Prince George, was Regent in place of his father, King George III.

It was the time of Wellington and Waterloo, the Peninsular wars, and the American Civil War.

It was an unsettled time in England, with the Industrial Revolution gaining ground, uneasy politics, and as yet no police force, except for the Bow Street Runners, set up in London by Henry Fielding.

There were no effective police forces on or before the 19th century, the law being enforced by constables appointed by justices of the peace, (JP's), or magistrates.

It was an exciting time, of clandestine meetings, chicanery, intrigue –- it was the Regency period.

I hope you enjoy this site, and find many interests here.
